Thinking in Pictures: My Life with Autism by Oliver Stacks and Temple Grandin
Jane Smith Facilitator
Temple Grandin, Ph.D., is a gifted animal scientist who’s designed one third of all livestock-handling facilities in the US. She lectures widely on autism because she is autistic, a woman who thinks, feels, and experiences the world in ways that are incomprehensible to the rest of us. She writes from the dual perspectives of a scientist and an autistic person—telling us how she managed to breach the boundaries of autism to function in the outside world. What emerges is the document of an extraordinary human being, one who gracefully bridges the gulf between her condition and our own while shedding light on our common identity.

Abercrombie Trail: A Novel About the 1862 Uprising by Candace Simar
“Endlessly Fascinating…The ultimate ‘I was there’ book. I have read many books about Scandinavians coming to America in the turbulent 1860s, but thanks to author Candace Simar, this is the first time I was ever transported from my easy chair right into the book to experience it with them. The images of courage, cruelty, intolerance, discovery, and simple pleasures have stayed with me. This is one book I won’t forget.” -John Koalas, author
